My family settled in the State of Georgia, Monroe County, south of Atlanta, and built a plantation home, and named it, Inverness. The family lost everything following the U.S. Civil War, and the home was burned down by Federal Troops, during Sherman's Famous, March Through Georgia. I have been told by family members that the name of their home was the place of their origin in Scotland.

My great, great grandmother was Martha McNeil (b. "Ontario, Canada" 1830) who married John Frederick McAfee. If you come upon her in your research, I'd appreciate a lead. I can find nothing on either one of them. He came from Belfast but the trail ends there. She was from Ontario but the trail ends there! By the way, through the National Geographic Genographic Project, I had my mtDNA traced through Martha and her mother and her mother's mother ad infinitum. The map I have of my ancestors' migration goes from 150,000 years ago up until about 5,000 - 6,000 years ago.

I'm a direct descendent of William McIntosh, the Muskogee (Creek) Chief who signed the treaty for the Creeks to move from Georgia to Oklahoma. Williams's father was William, Scottish trader that married into the tribe and had two sons, William and John. William was executed for giving up the tribal lands and his son Chili brought the first group from Georgia to settle in what is now McIntosh county, Oklahoma

Greetings to all! I've been having a hard time tracing my family's lineage. I started my "quest" about a year ago when my brother and I decided to get tattoos of the Mackintosh family crest. i learned a lot about the clan in general, which was great. i even went as far as tracking down a copy of the MacKintosh lament to give it a listen, and learning a very small amount of Gaelic. But its been hard finding anything on my particular ancestry. My grandfather (Rogers) McIntosh passed away when i was rather young, but I remember one story passed down which states that our line was kicked out of Scotland after James II was de-throned. His account has the family exiled to Ireland for helping him get to the throne. but the "official" historical account states that a large portion of the most fervent supporters of the catholic ruler were all sent to America. This official account supports a lot of our family history recorded in the united states. I'm very interested in finding more information about our family, and it's history. But I've also met with some trouble trying to locate any information apart from the typical stuff most Scottish clan websites have. if anybody else has any information feel free to send an email. thank you

Ian Lachlan Mackinton was my Divisional Officer in the Royal Navy [Mid 1950's] - I was a Radio Operator - He was a Lieutenant at that time - He was without doubt one of the nicest/best officers I came across during my service - This is obviously a family trait as I have just finished reading 'The Clan Mackintosh and The Clan Chattan' written by Margaret Mackintosh of Mackintosh. I just happened to find this site. I am looking for information concerning the McIntosh castle still in Scotland. My father's name was George Alexanda McIntosh, his father's name was Julian I think. Someone in our family has our history traced back 500 years, but no one seems to be able to find it, or someone has it and just want tell any of us. While in the US AIR FORCE I served in England for 2 years at Bentwaters near Woodbridge 15 miles from Ipswich southern England. I never got a chance to go to Scotland while on leave to find our castle. This I regret deeply. I am now a 100% disabled Veteran as I got injured while in the military in 1972, my left shoulder and the operation in Mar 1999 the Veterans hospital did on my left shoulder was a failure, so my left shoulder has been out of joint ever since the failed operation and I am having a time trying to get the Veterans Affairs to be accountable for crippling me for the rest of my life. Been in pain everyday since the failed operation. I haven't learned a lot about my family history from this site, but I know, or have been told our relatives were high ranking officers in the Scottish military when at war with England, and they had to flee for their lives, and I think they went to Ireland, then England, I think, then to the US. There were 4 brothers, 2 of which settle in the Carolina's the other 2 up North somewhere. I may be related to a lot of you all in some way I am sure. ......Hello,,, I am just getting into my Scottish heritage and am loving all of this "stuff". My paternal Grandmother was a MacIntosh. Her name was INA and she had a twin sister named NINA, and many other sisters and brothers ( Hubert, Guy ) I believe 12 children in all. Some were in Tupper Lake, NY and there were some in St Petersburg, Florida. She married Edward Monica (1920ish) and lived in Syracuse, NY. My father doesn't remember too much. I am going to Edinburgh for a week in April. We attend a few Festivals and I even have a Blackwatch kilt I wear. I haven't found an affordable MacIntosh kilt yet but would like to. My kin starts with Phillip, his son John born in Virginia, married Ellender king and had 6 kids. One was William Clinton McIntosh {DOD about1916} his wife was Mary Johnson and they had 6 kids the oldest being Millard Fillmore {dob about 1871} Estell County, Kentucky. Millard married Maude Lowry {dob about 1881} from Somerset, Kentucky. They had 8 kids with Millard death about 1911. This left Maude with the 8 kids to raise. I'm unsure of my family history anymore but was told that the Riddell and McIntosh family are related. I was shown a picture of the two families together as well as a whole lot of other old pictures of our family and was pointed out beside what was said to be my Great or Great-Great grandmother of last name McIntosh. I can't recall the first name but I'm sure I could find out through my parents as they have the pictures. I believe we even have some papers that explain our history but I am not too sure if it is easily found in that house without a good searching. Dundela is very close to Winchester. It is more close to Winchester Springs. There is a sign specifically made for the history of that McIntosh apple spot on that street in Dundela. It felt great back when I first saw it - knowing that it is a part of my history. I even think we have a picture of John McIntosh or perhaps someone very closely related to him. I'm not that familiar with names past my own grandmother on the Riddell side anymore but again that can be looked up back with our pictures. My grandmother's name is Mattie Riddell -at elast that is what I called her if it was instead of Grandma. I am sure that is her real first name or if it was short of something :) My other Grandmother's name is Winnifred Crump on my mother's side.

My mother was Bessie Mackintosh from Laggan, Inverness-shire. Her parents were Sandy (Rarie) and Maggie (Mairead Anna Caimbeul). Sandy came from a big family in the Laggan area, his brothers Jimmy "Rarie" and Lachie "Rarie" were famous as Gaelic singers, as was Sandy's son (and my uncle) Jimmy (Foxy). Hello to all MacIntosh,s My great great great grandfather was Robert MacIntosh born in Glealbert, Logeriate, Perthshire on the 30 jan 1781, Robert came to Sydney Australia as Band Master of the 46th South Devonshire regiment in 1814, he had a brother Donald ,dont know anything about him but Roberts parents were John Macintosh & Isobell of Logeriate also, Johns father was William Macintosh baptised 25 may 1712, he married Grizell MacLaughlin in 15. 3 .1735, Johns father was Donald Macintosh who married Jonat Robertson on the 25. 3. 1707, Jonet was born in 1681. I am not very good[at]"surfing" Can anyone tell me how to find the original names of families associated with the MacKintosh Clan and when???? And why are there several tartans for each clan? And where can I see illustrated those for this clan? My father left Renfrew about 1937 and only returned for holidays. I know almost nothing about his father or ancestors - YET!

John McIntosh discoverer of the McIntosh apple is my 3rd Great-grandfather. I grew up in Dundela where he found the sapplings.Would like to hear from anyone else related to my John McIntosh. I know my line back as far as Johns' mother and father. They were Alexander and Jennet McIntosh. They came from Inverness Scotland. John was born in the Mohawk Valley in upper New York. He was born in 1777. He came to Ontario and the rest is history. Some believe John landed in Nova Scotia. I found a John McIntosh who did, but this is not the John who discovered the apple. I have family documents and pictures going back along way. Glad I found this site. It's nice to know there's still lots of us out there.
