Easy Penuche Icing
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup milk
1-3/4 to 2 cups sifted powdered sugar
Melt butter in a saucepan. Add brown sugar and milk. Boil
over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Cool to
lukewarm. Gradually add powdered sugar. Beat until thick
enough to spread. If icing becomes too stiff, add a little water.
This is a wonderful homemade icing recipe from Todd's great-grandmother Ola
(Viola Gares).
She always spread this icing over white angel food cake, sometimes made
with crushed black walnuts.
