Rae-Lynn has made a heart-rending plea, and i sincerely hope someone can help her soon. However, she wrote: "I am told that it was MacKintosh when folks resided back home in Scotland, and that upon arrival and settlement in the "new world" (USA and Canada) the name was then altered to a new spelling, becoming MacIntosh, and that any of those settlers who had intermarried with the Upper Cree Nation would have altered the spelling further still to become known as McIntosh." This is absolute nonsense. The various spellings of our name simply arose because people in the past spelled as they sounded. If you look up a phone book for Northern Scotland, you will see all possible spellings. I myself was born in Scotland (McIntosh), and in my genealogical research, I have found all possible spellings in my direct ancestors' records. No matter the spelling, we simply all have the same name. Rae-Lynn, I hope you find a happy and peaceful conclusion to your earch.

My birth name is Rae Lynn MacKintosh. I was born at the Toronto Western Hospital on July 12, 1975. My mother was roughly between the ages of 17-19 at the time of my birth. Leona Mackintosh was my mothers name at the time of my birth. She is one half Canadian Native, and half anglo saxon. My bfather (name currently unknown) was in his 20's at the time of my birth and had been working as an electrical repairman for four years prior to my birth. He was aware of my birth and had been involved with my mother up until the time of my birth. He was Ukranian in descent. Leona's father was Full canadian native, and her mother was Anglo Saxon.. Leona Mackintosh's mother passed away sometime in the early 1960's, "accidentally", although no one has confirmed with me just what sort of accident it was that caused her death. At that time in the early 60's Leona's father had been working as a truck driver. When his wife(?I am uncertian as to weather or not Leoan's parents were in fact actually married) died suddenly, he found it difficult to raise the children and continue to work. Leona and all of her siblings were admitted into Catholic's Childrens Aid Society in Toronto. (my non-ident. info doens't clearly state to me just how many siblings Leona had, nor does it shead any light on gender of Leona's siblings.) My b.mother Leona had been in foster prior to my birth, and after my birth when she was having problems finding and maintaining adiquate residence for herself and I, she was admitted back into the care of the Toronto Catholic Childrens Aide Society, with me, so that a foster parent could assist her in careing for me.. but it didn't work out. She eventually lost custody of me after going through alot of turmoil without family support. My adoption was finalized on March 1/1977 in North York. My birth mother and I were released from the hospital to an address on Cassandra Blvd in Toronto on July 18th, 1975. .I suspect the address on Cassandra may have been rented by my birth father, or my b.grandfather on my mothers behalf if the address on my hospital records was correct and my bmother did not give the hospital misleading information upon our release. When I went and looked at the city directory listings for 1975 in Toronto at Casandra blvd, a man's name appeared on the list.. actually several men.. In 1975 directory.. (which could be the wrong year, because I think the 1975 directory is actually for 1974) There was a gentleman residing there by the name of J W Morton. the phone listed for him was 416-444-8108. In the 1976 Directory there were two listings at Cassandra 275-#903, One being Dale Wallace- occupation "Northdale Transport"- no phone.... and Peter Vick- no phone- no occupation. I have had no luck tracing any of these people. . I recently met another McIntosh and she explained kindly to me the differences within the MacKintosh family names.. I am told that it was MacKintosh when folks resided back home in Scotland, and that upon arrival and settlement in the "new world" (USA and Canada) the name was then altered to a new spelling, becoming MacIntosh, and that any of those settlers who had intermarried with the Upper Cree Nation would have altered the spelling further still to become known as McIntosh. I find this unusuaul since the spelling of my birth name was clearly written on my hospital records as being MACKINTOSH,, but my mother was clearly one half Native. I have yet to discover why the spelling wasn't altered as it should have been. If any of this information sounds even rometly fimiliar to you, and you think that you might be able to help me shed some light on these mysteries I would love to hear from you. Please contact me by email at andi_d @ altavista.com Thank you for your time Sinceerely Andrea Dellio Born as: Rae Lynn MacKintosh on July 12, 1975 to Leona MacKintosh at the Toronto Western Hospital

Nice site! I am looking for any information on my great grandmother's family. She was a McIntosh from Iowa, Nebraska or Oaklahoma, her name was Mary Ellen McIntosh, her mother was Clementine, and sister Sarah MacIntosh-Porter. She married Isaiah Granger, my paternal great grandfather. This would have been in the mid or later 1800's (the marriage) I have been told that the Granger McIntosh and Williamson family were closely related, and that at one time they did live in Oaklahoma? I actually have a very old picture of her and her mother and sister, but do not even know my great great grandfather McIntosh's first name. If anyone has any information that may correspond to any of this little bit of family history I have on them, it would be appreciated.

HELP!!!! Family lore says that the Moys are from Scotland. They left because they were on the wrong side of a fight. We have history dating back to Hans Moy born in 1746. He was married to Susanna Renfer. My husband is the Great-Great-Grandson of Nicholas Moy, born in 1815 in Bern, Switzerland. Nicholas Moy immigrated to the US in or about 1829, with his brother Samuel and sister Magdalena. Moy and Moye are the same family. The "e" was added after they moved to the US. Now does anyone have any information tying the Moys of Switzerland and the Moys in Scotland together and to the Mackintosh Clan or Clan Chattan.

My great-great-grandfather was EWIN CLARK MACKINTOSH, he came to Mexico from Scottland between 1825-30. He was an important character in the financial life of Mexico in the decades of 1835-50. I´m beginning a research about this man who was a very important "moneylender" for the mexican government. I would like to know more about his life and his past in Scottland and London before coming to Mexico, I would be really gratefull if someone could send me information about documents or archives where I could learn more about him, so I could continue with my master´s tesis in mexican history. I would like to have contact whith anyone who is also interested in history matters.

I have seen a lot of stuff written on this, and other, web sites about the different spellings of our name. There are all kinds of theories, but the simple truth is that throughout history, people coudn't spell! If you research a line, you will find all possible spellings. My McIntosh line is directly traceable to Alves, Morayshire in 1732. Many of my ancestors' names have been recorded with every conceivable spelling; it actually depends on how the registrar wrote the name, in days past. Now that we live in what some term a more enlightened age, we tend to stick to one particular spelling; usually that which appears on our birth certificate. When we register a birth, marriage, death, etc, we usually tell the Registrar how to spell the last name. This was certainly not always the case, even into the early twentieth century. So, really, whether we prefer McIntosh, MacIntosh, Mackintosh, or any other variation there is, we all have the same name.

My family recently visited the Scotland Highlands and tried to purchase something for my wife whose maiden name is McIntosh. The shops all said the samed thing, spelled MCINTOSH is Irish, not Scottish, MACINTOSH or MACKINTOSH was the Scots spelling of this clan. Perhaps they were just playing a trick on my parents? I noticed the Clan McIntosh web site says the spelling doesn't matter. I was curious as to the history of the McIntosh spelling of the name. My inlaws did not know. Any insite you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Being our family (Black, unfortuanately not a clan, many thanks to the three clans that protected our family), I am very interested in helping my inlaws trace their heritage.

Since speaking to a complete stranger two days ago and finding out we had the same surname and come from very near 'towns' - me Culloden and him Elgin - I decided to do some web searching. I do have the clan badge, kilt pin and the tartan handed down from my fathers sister. My father, Donald Mackintosh, died some years ago along with all his sisters, so I don't think there are many of us left from our branch but knowing that there is a whole clan out there is reassuring.

The Direct Desendents of John Mohr McIntosh, who arrived in Ga. in 1736 aboard the "Prince Of Wales" from Inverness Scotland, will hold a Family Reunion on the Bluff at Isle of Hope near Savannah on Labor day weekend. John Mohr McIntosh and 136 men, women and children arrived in Savannah on Feb. 1736 upon request from General James Oglethorpe, founder of Savannah, to set up a Buffer between Georgia and Spanish occupied Florida to protect Ga. and the other Colonies from Spanish take over. The most significant Battle between the Highlander Scots, led by John Mohr McIntosh and the Spanish occured in 1742 on St. Simons Island Ga.when a very large Spanish Force landed on St. Simons and the Highlander soldiers along with Gen Oglethorpes Brittish soldiers set out a surprise attack and roundly defeated the Spanish for good, in what was later called the "Battle of Bloody Marsh". Since the McIntoshs played such a key role in Americas Independece in the Colonial Wars, and the Revolutionary war, there is a County named after the McIntoshes that is about 65 South of Savannah located on Interstate I-95. There are over 200 direct descendents of John Mohr McIntosh living throughout the United States, with the majority still living in the South. So the next time you are traveling through South Georgia, you will be amazed at all of the Historical Markers honoring the many McIntoshes. I am also a member of the St. Andrew's Society of Georgia, the oldest Sottish Society in the United States. Well I hope you enjoyed the Info, write back.William s.(Billy) McIntosh.

Any Mcintosh who would like to drop in for a chat would be most welcome. Great site.

I just had a look at the Clan Crest, and lo and behold it is exactly the same as the 1.5" by 1 and 7/8" heirloom pin that I have. It seems to be made out of Brass? I know this was passed down from at least two previous generations. I can scan it and then send it, but I have'nt tried it yet so I don't know how it would turn out. Curious as well is the amount of people that are from Perth, Perthshire area. That is apparentley from where my root originate. But the tree that I have to go by stops at 1832. Prior to this, I need help with????? Charles MacIntosh

This is great! Maybe I'll find my grass roots after all these years, or better yet be able to speak to someone online from afar. I was directed here by Scotland.com. My name is Charles (legally) but I go by Chuck (Chas in Scotland). I've got info for my family tree back to 1832, but not prior to this. Can anyone help me out???! I'll do what I can to decipher the information the best I can, if you contact me. Many thanks Charles MacIntosh P.S. the Moderator that put me in this direction, was Marhar @ Scotland.com Many thanks to this person as well

I’m looking for information on any/all of the following people: Cora Ann JOHNSON, b. abt 1882 (possibly in Iowa), d. 1958 (probably in Linn County, Iowa). I know nothing about her Johnson line, but I know that she m. Judson McINTOSH, b. 13 Nov 1887 in Nebraska City, Otoe, Nebraska, d. 3 July 1966 in Coggon, Linn, Iowa. Judson’s parents were William McINTOSH and Della BANKS. Judson and Cora had nine children, most (if not all) born in Iowa: Floyd C. McINTOSH, b. 14 Feb 1911, d. Nov 1963; Mamie A. McINTOSH, b. abt 1913, d. before 24 Nov 1973; Howard Judson McINTOSH (my grandfather), b. 19 Feb 1914 in Marion, Linn, Iowa, d. 24 Nov 1973 in Cedar Rapids, Linn, Iowa; Cora Opal McINTOSH, b. abt 1916, d. 1957; Walter J. McINTOSH, b. abt 1919, d. before 24 Nov 1973; Harold Glen McINTOSH; Leroy George McINTOSH; Alice McINTOSH; and Paul McINTOSH. The rumor in my family is that Cora was full-blooded Native American (a mix of Blackfoot, Crow and Sioux, if I remember right), but I don’t know if this is true or not. Any information I can get would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for Daniel McINTOSH, possible son of a John Ogg McINTOSH and Elizabeth McMILLAN (unconfirmed)- both born Scotland. Daniel was born 1763/64 in Perthshire, Scotlnd. He was supposed to have come to USA in 1801 from Scotland landing at NY. I haven't found a record for that yet either. He was a carpenter who was supposed to have smuggled his tools in a chest of meal so as not to have to pay a tax on them. He also was supposed to have come with 2 brothers and separated. He married Jane McCALLA (McCAULEY) on 15 December 1807 in KY. His wife Jane McCALLA was born October 1783 in Plumstead, Bucks, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Andrew McCALLA (McCAULEY). Known children were: William b. 1808 (d. 1811 in KY), James Harvey b.17 May 1813 in KY, John b. 1811 in KY, Daniel Jr. born 1818 in KY, Lewis b. 22 February 1824 OH, Rachel Elizabeth b. June 1826 in OH. They may have had other children who did not survive to adulthood like William. Daniel and Jane McINTOSH moved to Madison Twp, Columbiana, Ohio in 1818/19 and left the county for Pike Twp, Warren County, Indiana in 1836/37. Daniel died in West Lebanon Twp, Warren, IN on 28 October 1850. Jane died 26 may 1872 in West Lebanon, Warren, PA. Daniel was supposed to have served in the War of 1812 in KY-maybe it was OH. I haven't found any supporting evidence for any of the KY records yet. I have found census records for IN and a printed family history (and they have been known to have errors). I did send for the records from the NARA-just takes a long to to hear anything.

i have written a geneology book with the mcintosh, macintosh ancestry from the days of the picts into the late 1800,s containing approximately 150 pages. this is available to the mcintosh, macintosh families only for my cost price of $25.00. i am currently doing a geneology book with the mcintosh's of canada. if anyone wishes to submit their geneology as far back as possible with the place and date of birth and death and cause of death if possible and short story of their life i will include it in my book. i am especially interested in the cause of death, as i have had a problem with healing since i was 5 years old and am vitamin k deficient. this apparently was inherited in the mcintosh family. the cause of this was finally found to be that i was born with two cysts on my liver. also the fact that many mcintosh men have had brights disease including my father. you may write me at 1103 lakeshore road, tr 109, sarnia, ont. canada, n7v 4j8 if you wish to receive a copy of my book called hands across the border. if you wish to have your geneology in my upcoming book, you may also send that to me. be sure to include your e mail address, as well as your home address and your phone number.maggie peters

My great, great, great-grandmother was Katherine/Catherine Mcintosh. Born in 1799, she married James Donald of Rattray in Longforgan, Perthshire in 1823. They had 10 children born in Rattray (Perthshire), and apparently all emigrated to Ontario, Canada sometime around 1845-1855. She may be the daughter of Daniel/Donald Mcintosh and Bethia Soutar, but I'm having trouble confirming this. Any connections out there?

Interested in Macintosh, Mackintosh, McIntosh families in Glen Urquhart, Inverness-shire. My grandfather's great grandfather, John Macintosh, a farm servant at Balmacaan married in 1815 Ann Noble. Their son Finlay Mackintosh of Garguston Shore, Killearnan, Ross-shire is our patriarch. John may have had a brother James of Buntait. My cousin Terry McIntosh of Michigan married George McIntosh, whose people came from Glasgow.
