My ggggrandfather, Donald McIntosh was born in Inverness in 1770 (this date is disputed - some say 1809). He and his friend Sir William Wallace were in the British army- he a Captain, Sir William a Major, in the late 1790's, stationed in Barbados. Donald married an English officer's daughter named Janet Thompson. Later on the children of Sir William and Donald married and intermarried. I would love to find out more about my ancestors. June 8, 2003 I am currently doing family research on my Elder surname. I am trying to determine the origins of the Elder name. I have two possibilities: (1) Lancashire, England or (2) Elderslie, Scotland. My earliest ancestor was William Elder (born: 1681) who married an Elizabeth Finch (born: 1685). They emigrated to Prince George's County, Maryland between 1728-32. Williams's son, also a William, was born in 1707 and married an Ann Wheeler. He later married again to a Jacobia Clementia Livers, whose father, Arnold Livers, was a partisan of James II. Arnold was from Flanders, Belgium and was born in 1669. He too had to leave his homeland and settled in Maryland. I also heard that my Elder family was of the "Catholic" lineage. Any leads or sources where I can get some closure on the true origins of the Elder surname? Any additional information how the Elder sept is tied to the Mackintosh clan? This is all very interesting. How many of you have gone to the records of the Mormon Church. A lot of information can be found there.  Even records from Canada are there.  We learned our Great-Grand parents came to the United States but never married.  Found in the Death & Marriage records It shows They never married. Birth records of our grand parents show them never married.  My Brother went to Scotland Twice to go back on our Grandfather only to be told there that records were not the order of the day when a birth, marriage, death, baptism happened. The Mormon Church has a way of finding things for you.  Call your nearest one and they will help you. no they do not care your religion. Sometimes they will charge to send for tapes from Utah. Try it.  It might help.

John McIntosh, born about 1795 in VA. He married Mary Johns in KY, maybe Estill Co. or Franklin Co. He lived in Franklin Co. KY until he moved to Hendricks Co. IN in abt. 1830. They had the following children: Jacob B, Andrew Jackson, John Wood, Lydia (Thrall, Rachel (Henry), and Rebecca. They moved west with their married children sometime after 1850, and lived near Braddyville, Page Co. Iowa. John and Mary both passed away in the 1880's and are buried in the cemetery at Braddyville.

Thank you for this site. I'm putting together a book on the history of the town of Colton, California in which one of the early pioneers was a T.M. McIntosh in 1883, one of the original group of men who started the first school board. Later, when I attended high school there, the principal was Donald H. I am looking for any information on a Daniel McIntosh. He was born in Scotland around 1766. He came to New York to build stair cases, and eventually moved to Kentucky then to Ohio and settled in Indiana. Im not sure how accurate this is but I have his fathers name as William. No information on a spouse. He had a sister name Dililah, brother William Jonathan Mar. to Mary Catherine More on Sept 24,1799 Mercer County Ky, another brother named Joseph, Peter, Jacob,and sisters Nancy and Betsy. I don't know anything about the McIntosh side of my family except that my grand-father, Alvin Jack McIntosh came to White Cliffs, Arkansas and married my grand-mother Thelma Irene Booth.They had two sons-William Estel McIntosh and Alvin McIntosh. Ok, hello everyone. My mother and I are having a little bit of a dispute and maybe someone here can help us out. My mother (or me mum) maiden name is HEGGIE. Maternally I am descended from JAMES ADAMSON born in 1754 in DUNDEE, Scotland, a well-to-do merchant, and his wife Isabell CROSS (in some places written as 'CORSE').James and Isabell had 9 children (and Isobell had two older sons from her first marriage to John MUDIE). Of the 9 ADAMSON children born to James and Isobell only 3 survived to adulthood and all 3 (Lt-GeneralPeter, Dr. Joseph and a sister Helen) emigrated to Ontario CANADA in about 1822. James' parents were David ADAM(SON)and Hellen HUNTER also from DUNDEE. I have the complete family history from the birth and baptism of James ADAMSON to the present time, however I would like to know more about James' parents and grandparents, the connection with Clan MacIntosh, and why David ADAMSON appears to have changed his surname to ADAM and then back to ADAMSON just after the 'Rising of the Clans and the Battle of Culloden in 1745. James was baptized 'James ADAM', and a few years years later the family became ADAMSON again. This suggests to me that the name change was an attempt to avoid retaliation from the English soldiers for participation in the Uprising. I would like to hear some other opinions on this. Also, is there a record somewhere, maybe among Clan MacIntosh Papers, of the names of those clan members who fought in '45? Who is the present Clan Chief? Is there a Clan Archivist or Genealogist? Greetings all, I am looking for information on a James Ian Stuart Mcintosh born in Liverpool, I am his son, and no longer am in contact and havent had so for over 11 years now, It is possibe that you might know him as Ian as he does not go by James ironically I am known as Stuart, I beleive he lives in the North of England possibly the North West still, i would very much appreciate any information anybody could forward to me, Many Thanks and Best Wishes.... P.S. One of my reasons for trying to contact him is to tell him he has a grandchild to be born in July of 2003, Well at least the McIntosh name will live on for another generation at least.....

Hello, My Great grandfather was "Dumbdie" McIntosh who had William Harold McIntosh who married Alice Beth something (This my granny, and I can't remember her maiden name!!) They had 4 children, Elizabeth, David John, Mary and William George, the youngest, George, being my father who married Kathleen Jacobs of Durban, South Africa. And hence came my sister Karla and I. Now i don't know the particulars,my Aunty Liz is researching our geneology, but some time in the 1800's A few McIntosh's moved from South Africa to Australia and then moved back to South Africa we thought that there were only 2 children in Aust. But it turns out there was 9!!! so there are a whole stack of McIntosh's running about that we didn't know of!! I have probably got this all wrong, but i'm sure i will get a stern email from aunty liz correcting me. thanx for letting me rant. and, oh yeah, the castle is mine... :-)

My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Effie McIntosh and my father says she was Scotch-Irish. Her husband's name was Albert Claud(e) Wright and they moved from Southern Missouri (Jakes Prairie) to Central Illinois (Moweaqua) in the 20's, I believe. I've researched from the marriage of James McIntosh to Elizabeth Beveridge in Perth in 1786 and have followed it from there to Kinross, possibly Dundee, then to Dunbar in 1820 and then to Newcastle-upon Tyne by 1881 Census.
